"Wisdom Cries Out"

"Wisdom Cries Out"

God Knows Who You Are

“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the motives.” (Proverbs 16.2)

The choices I make will always make sense to me. This doesn’t mean my way is right or wrong; it simply means I can see clearly the path I took from point A to point B.

We are good at justifying our actions, especially to others. But this justification is irrelevant to God. He is not concerned with pretense but with purity. He knows the heart (Proverbs 21.2; 1 Samuel 16.7) and objectively holds us accountable for our choices.

This proverb is a warning to consider the purity of our motivations. God offers grace to human weakness but he is not blind to our way of life. Consider how differently God treated David’s sin with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11-12) with Saul’s choice to disobey God‘s command (1 Samuel 15). God was merciful to David because he had a pattern of obedience and repentance in his life, whereas Saul did not.

Because God “weighs the motives” ultimately we will be held accountable for our choices. God knows who we truly are. For all the freedom we have to choose, we must not forget there will come a day of reckoning.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (2 Corinthians 5.10)

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4.13)
