"Wisdom Cries Out"

The Path of Sexual Sin

"no one who goes to [the forbidden woman] comes back, nor do they regain the paths of life" (Proverbs 2.19)

When the path of sexual fulfillment is chosen, it is difficult (maybe even impossible) to leave, or to regain the path of morality. The digression into sexual sin encourages a false priority in life, making the fulfillment of carnal desires paramount. This is the premise of Freudian philosophy and the basis from which most of our culture operates – do what feels right

This is foolishness. This way of life encourages devious behavior that only leads to death and destruction. This is a provable fact (see Proverbs 7). It does not make us right with God or offer our lives any lasting value. We must understand the folly of following our heart's desires (Jeremiah 17.9) and the need to bring wisdom into our hearts (Proverbs 2.10).

True wisdom encourages discretion (Proverbs 2.11) and avoidance of deviant pursuits (Proverbs 2.15). Proverbs 2 emphasizes the diligence we must have in the face of sexual sins (Proverbs 2.1-5). We live in a culture where Hedonism is prevalent and strong. Access to elicit material is at our fingertips. Cultural accountability is non-existent. Acceptance of perverted behavior is becoming widely accepted. No one will stop you from engaging in these things. But wisdom pleads with us to avoid these things (Proverbs 1.20)!

Many choose to walk the path of pleasure without considering the consequences. Please listen to wisdom. There is a way that seems right to us but it never ends well (Proverbs 14.12). Wisdom calls us to abandon that way, and to live chaste and prudent lives… are you practicing discipline or pursuing pleasure?
